euro 323i transmission (archive)

I am trying to identify the transmission in an E30 323i residing in the local slavage yard. It is a 5-speed overdrive, and I've heard that it should be a Getrag 260, like the US 325e and i had. On another website, however, I saw an article that said it was a Getrag 240, like the 318is had. Does anyone know for sure, and is there any outward way to identify the transmission with it still installed in the car? Any help much appreciated!
