Friends... I am still having that annoying sound on my belts. It only happens at night when the car is cold,,, what the &(*(^%$ is going on?...

This morning I started to loosen them slightly, thought is was O.K. and this evening after going shopping, the fregin thing is at it again. Don't know which one..

How can I tell if there is enough or not enough tension on them?. How much leeway should I give them, is there an easy way to tell.. thanks... Is belt dressing and/or WD40 the solution?,,,Thanks in advance..., Richie..

About 1/2 inch of play when you push on the belt in the middle between pulleys. WD40 - no, belt dressing might help. How long since they have been changed? Also, on some BMW's alternator mount bushings go south and cock the alternator over so that you can not fix the squealing without replacing the mount bushings. No big deal, more of a PITA. Make sure your pulleys are parallel.
