Oh Yeah! This car has so much torque that it will shread your tires (exagerating of course). You have to get more specific about your own and your friends' cars. Is your standard? How about their cars? How old is the camaro and the mustang?

The 0-60mph for an 86 325e is around 9 seconds. Not really that quick! You might be able to take on a 4cyl mustang, depending on the model year, the camaro seems less likely. It depends a lot on how good a driver you are, or conversely, how bad your friends are.

I personally don't enjoy drag racing. A quote I recently read about bimmers, on BEN or somewhere, comes to mind. It goes "Real men do it in the corners." Just remember, your car will corner better than those two cars any day.

Good luck,

Omer.
86 325e.

P.S. The biggest thing that hampers the performance in your car (mine as well) is the friggin "eta" engine. It is a good gas miser but not really a good performer when its stock. I've read, on this forum, that with a chip, and an i header, you can boost the hp to around 200. I would just buy a 89 325is (0-60 mph in around 7.4 seconds).
