First, I have an 87 325i with the 2.5 litre, but the redline is 4500. Does this mean I have the mysterious i engine with e crank? Second, what does the "code" feature on the OBC do? I haven't used that feature because codes kind of scare me.

Well, you may have a rebadged "eta" car, the "e" series that has the high MPG motor, you may have a replaced tach done by an idiot that didn't notice the different redlines, or you may have the elusive eta botom and with an "i" head. Only way to know for sure is to take the cam cover off and count the cam mounting points. Eta motors have only three or four as I recall.

The code feature on the OBC allows you to immobilize the car by entering a code of your choice while the ignition switch is in the "2" or run position. The car will not start until the same numbers are re-entered when returning to the car. Caution: remember the code, you get three tries to re-enter it or the horn goes off. Your neighbors won't like you if you forget it.
