If you are refering to the red E30, it has an M20 engine punched out to 2.7 litre with a diesel crank and forged pistons. It is a 6 cylinder engine. The S14 M3 engine is a 4 cpot motor. The M52 is a 24 valve 6 cylinder engine that has no part interchangeable with the previously named engines. Yes you can build a 2.3 or even a 2.5 stroker engine by using an M3 crank (2.3 or 2.5) and special pistons, but the limitation of your 8 valve head will cut you out of the 250 HP an M3 E30 can reach.

It seems you are pretty new to the subject and are mixing apples with oranges...
