When I drove the Z3 I had several problems like this over the two years I had it. The seat belt light stayed on, the SRS light stayed on and the ABS light stayed on all due to a malfunction in the sensors. The dealer fixed these things under warranty. I had the SRS problem twice too... I always thought these problems were due because it was the first year of production and they still needed to work out some of the bugs but I guess it was the parts they were using... My fathers 97 540i has never had any problems. I wonder if the sensors are different in his car than in yours??? Check with the dealer they should fix it for nothing...
