It won't crank? Check the starter solenoid to see if it is engaging. You should be able to hear it, a clap or click noise, you might need a friend to work the ignition while your under the hood listening. On most of the engine mgt systems I've worked, "key position ON or START" will power up coil but the coil will not deliver a spark until it gets a signal from the ECU which is waiting to hear from the "crank sensor" that the engine is turning (and where it is in terms of rotation). So, no crank=no spark. Start with the starter, I don't know where Fuse 21 goes, but the short could very well be in the starter solenoid. I have not done this type of work in several years, so please take this info w/ some reserve. Good luck!

90ix Today i was trouble shooting my 1985 325e problem and im still puzzled. One day i left the lights on and i tried to jump the car, something happened, its either i jumped it with the ignition on, or zapped something. Today i figured out that I have power to the coil, but no spark. it turns over just fine, its getting fuel (i can smell it), but it wont crank. I also found out that there is a short, after connecting the - battery terminal, and the - cable with a 12 power checker, the checker is still lit up., BUT, when i take fuse #21 out, the short is gone, (the short is still there with the computer unplugged, so its not the computer), my question is, what can be wrong with my car?, and what goes to fuse #21 that could be wrong. what are some tests i can do to the computer its self to make sure its not the computer. Anyhelp is greatly apprciated.
Thanks,
Paul
