I know it sounds crazy but I had a customer's car in for the same thing and I replaced the fuse and the idle was normal. I went to back out of the shop and all of a sudden the idle jumped up again and the fuse was blown. The switch on the tranny shorted out. A new one solved the problem. I suspect the reverse light connector going through the rubber bellows under your shift boot as a place to start looking for a short.Try disconnecting to see if the short is before or after it. Good luck!

Can anyone help? Number 9 fuse is blowing. When it does the rpm goes up to 2300 and stays. It won't take a new fuse they blow agian. I have checked from the idle computer under the dash to:idle control vale, temp.sensors, vacuum sol.,TPS, ect.... Have replaced all of above and still no fix. Tested for continuity, looks good. What the hell is the problem. Some help or experience would be great. Regards, Ian. 84/318i
