Do you need a "tool" to push the control arm ball joint stud out of the strut? Or will a hammer do? I don't want to buy a tapered fork - but is a fork the standard thing to use? I'm not putting in a new one just removing the strut. Thanks.

Leave the nut on the last couple of threads on the stud, and hit the side of the piece where it goes through the strut with a medium sized hammer. Hope this helps.
