Lighten Flywheel?? (archive)

Fellow E30 Lovers,

My '90 325is has 270K(!) on it. Time for a driveline overhaul. I'm buying the Metric Mechanic 2.9 ltr hi-flo sport engine, tranny, and final drive.

Jim Rowe (legandary BMW engine builder) suggests a new lightweight (12-14 lbs) flywheel. My car comes with a 36 lb flywheel stock which is allegedly too heavy.

It's my daily driver so I'm concerned about idle smoothness, clutch action, more noise, etc. that might happen with a light flywheel.

Anyone have a lighted flywheel?? Would you do it again??

Any feedback about Metric Mechanic engines??

Thanks!
Rodger
