Hey guys,

All of the lights in my dash have pulsated in relation to the idle speed for quite some time now, meaning half the life of the car. I can live with it, but the damn thing makes headlight bulbs go so fast, because those lights pulsate too! Any suggestions? I've heard of 535i alternators swapped in and ideas like that, but does anyone have any personal experience with it?

Thanx in advance!

BMW used two different brands: Bosch and Valeo. If you have the Valeo, the voltage reg is internal and soldered in. You'll have to buy the whole alternator. If you're lucky and have the Bosch you can just put a new voltage reg in.
You and I have corresponded on the board here before, you have the problem nailed down. It's easy to swap out that alternator. What I did was took one of my other E30's that didn't have this problem and I exchanged alternators...Bingo..problem solved.
Your next step should be determining the make of your alternator, then you can decide what to do.
Good luck.

Neal
