my brake lining light has very breifly flickered a few times in the last few days. Does that mean it's time for new brake pads? If so what type would you recommend?

Time to physically check the thickness of the disk brake pads; perhaps replace (???). I have 84 model car; so not sure what to recommned for pads---maybe go w/titanium; none are too expensive.
