1989 antenna probs (archive)

...Bought this 89 325is and noticed I couldn't get any stations on the radio once I closed the deal and drove it home. The previous owner cut the antenna power wires so I reconnected them, but I don`t think there is an antenna mast inside to go up and down. The antenna motor revs for awhile when I turn on the ignition and again when I turn off the ignition then stops, but the hole which should house the antenna is hollow. Where do I go from here? He also cut the antenna wire itself and I have no idea where that needs to be reconnected either....
