I have swapped an ECU from an 88 528e super eta(154) into my 87 325i(153). The original had some corrosion on the circuit board probably from water getting into it while the previous owner drove the car for a year without the windshield seal lockstrip. Of course I had to swap the chip from the 153 to the 154. Both cars have Motronic 1.1 and have the same number of pins, 55 if I remember correctly. Car runs like a champ. HTH
