Check to see if the vent lever or the defrost lever are at least partially to the on position (to the right). The compressor will not come on without contacts made on either of these two levers. Or check contacts.

There should be a compressor clutch diode somewhere in the engine bay. On my 91 325i, it is located on the compressor. It's worth a look.

There is a diode (for snubbing purposes, I assume) stuck right on the compressor. It appears good as I get continuity through it.

It still doesn't explain why I never get 12V on the line down to the clutch.

I am going to have to go see if I can trace this out.
