Power gains come one step at a time....unless you replace the motor or something. You will not notice a gigantic change by simply popping in a chip. The advertised gain for most aftermarket chips is in the 12 to 15 horse range. Unfortunately, it takes about 15 or more horse to notice a change. There are several things one can do to make his/her M20 run stronger....you will just have to decide for yourself what will work best for your setup. As for F#@%ing up what you've already done.....a chip will not harm your car. I have a Jim C chip in my 325is and have had no complaints about anything, including idle. Best of luck.
