The car that I am buying(87 325 Auto) didn't make the emission tests last year. It was sitting idle for long time when brought to the emissions by original owner. Her daughter went overseas he claims and he is an 70 yr old man who is not driving and car was sitting in his indoor garage.
Could you please advise me what precautions should I take to pass it this year?

This car also has a squeking belt sound. Any tips to how to check which belt is making the sound? Or might it be something else? Water pump may be. I am not good in mechanics.

Also when the car is running I opened the oil cap, car slows down a little bit, same happens when I lift the oil stick. Is this normal or major problem? There are no leaks though. Double checked the bottom and the floor where car was sitting.

Altough this is an eta 120hp angine I liked this car very much and very serious about purchasing it, regardless of the some potential mechanical(it has 180km) and emission problems since it had one owner. Interior was immaculate. The original paint was immaculate and most important of all no rust(okey only bubbled area is where the back plate lights are-but most cars that I checked since 3 weeks have this).

I am paying $3500 cdn which is $2000 US. And since the car looks very good I am willing to spend some on repairs. Will definately change all the belts and hoses.

I would very appreciate the comments from the BMW gurus here, which might help me to make my decision.

Thank you all in advance.

A final thing, E36 85-89 had a metallic looking trim in the front windshield but his one has a black plastic looking trim like the 89-91 E36s. Is this you think original or they changed the trim? The metallic lokking trim always looked rusty to me and I rather prefer solid black one gainst it but just curious.

PS: The car color and condition almost look like this(only the rims are different-original e36 stell/aluminum looking rims on the new one that I am getting)
