In Reply to: GAS GAUGE FOR 318i. Having problems, HELP! posted by Dave D. on May 13, 2001 at 18:12:02:

When I filled my tank this morning it took forever for my gauge to reach full. I realize this could be a problem w/ the sending unit, but I once read that it also could be corrected with with the removal for 10 seconds of a certain fuse and then re-insertion of the fuse.
This has happened a few times on my last 2 3 Series. Any help would be appreciated.

I have same model/year car and althought my problem was not identical; I had trouble w/fuel gauge reading properly. I'd pull the rear seat and pull out the sender; leave it connected and flip it over; back an forth to see if gauge responds; I'll bet $$$ this is your problem. You may find it is simply "gummed up" and by cleaning w/fuel you may be able to get it to work properly. If not, new sender is about $80---the labor is simple.
Good luck,
