I agree with the 87-91. although the 87's had the old metal bumpers and the old tail tail light, '88 had new tail lights and metal bumpers and the '89-'91 had the desirable flush bumpers. I've got a '91 318i (first year for DOHC 16V motor 4cyl motor). It's got lively performance, and is a blast to drive. My car gets atleast 1000km a week, the 318 helps me cut down on fuel costs.
