Actualy most of these chips merely bring the engine's performance up to the level it was built for. But be advised! Premium Gas is required to prevent detonation, which is very bad,

BMW, figured that most American drivers would not have paid attention to the Premium Gas requirement, and purposely detuned the cars.

the neat thing is that it's very easy to change chips, so you can run the stock one when gas prices are high, and the perfomance one at the track at driver's schools.
