wicked 17 in alloys on 318is (archive)

i am gutted,
i have just bought a brand new set of 17in ellesio alloys and 205/40/17 tyres.after fitting them i am experiencing a grinding/rubbing on the inner edge of the alloy against the strut. will 10mill spacers solve the problem?
whats going on i was told 17ins alloys would be no problem on a 1990 318is. waiting patiently and pollishing them...
