Clutch pedal flat (archive)

My 1987 325 today dropped the clutch pedal flat
onto the floor and it's like it has no clutch;
stuck in gear. Are the clutches on these cable
(snapped?) or hydraulic (ran out of fluid)? If
it's a hydraulics issue, where's the container
to top up? What's the fluid called? I just had
it serviced (full service) a few days ago ...
any advice would be highly appreciated.
