had to replace the alternator on an 87 325e. along with the alternator i need to replace the v belt. i've never replaced a v-belt on this car before but i figured that it wouldn't be too hard. as i look at it the only way that i can see to put it on is to loosen and remove the belt that runs from the pulley on the lower part of the block to the compressor (at least i think that's the thing that this particular belt is running to - it's on the right side of car).
here are the questions:
does that lower belt (compressor to lower block pulley) have to be removed to put the alternator v-belt on??
if that belt has to come off how do you do it?? i don't see how it's done.
it looks like the v-belt circles the alternator, the water pump and the lower engine block pulley. is that right?? i can't find any diagrams in the bentley manual that i have.
thanks all.
tim,
87 325
72 tii
i don't do a lot of work on this one so i'm stumped
