I had problem with mine and I found out that for 318i the pick up is at the rear diff. just look underneath your car from behind and you will see a cable going to the diff. good luck

I think I have a problem with the tach speed sensor but I can not find any info on it for the 318i-1985 in any of the books. The computer relies on the speed input as does the auto tranny and the Tach but where is it???? I know where they are on my 325 but where is it on the 318i? Does it use the same input from the pulse generator on the distributor?? HELP PLEASE!! My tach is all over the place and doesn't match the engine speed.
