carbon build-up (archive)

I have carbon build-up on my spark plugs, and in changing my air filter, I noticed some nasty stuff in the air intake valve. Checking the thottle housing, there was more of the icky stuff.
I am new to auto repair, and the handy Bentley book does not mention how to solve the carbon problem...or how to tell if my injectors are clogged as well.
I am having warm slow acceleration problems, and I am sure this is a source!!!
Any advice??
