Towing World says no problem flat towing any manual transmission BMW, no a dolly should be no problem either.

Dunno what you are towing with, but any BMW ('cept an 02) is a pretty heavy car to tow without trailer brakes or a brake buddy if you are flat towing. I've towed an e30 on an open steel tandem axle trailer a couple of times without brakes and it's not my idea of a good time.
