That happened to my car, when I got it. but my motor mounts were actually broken. There are some motor mounts that you can use that are stiffer but I forget what they are now. I think that slight modification is needed. Changing the motor mounts is not hard. All you need to do is unbolt them from the top and raise the motor up. You can do this by jacking up on the oil pan but but a thick board accross it first. Really the best way to correct the problem is get the rad set up off an '88+ as bmw re routed the hoses, so this would not happen.jay '87 325is
On my last run of yesterday's autocross, my power-steering pulley cut through the lower radiator hose of my '87 325is. Arrgh! I believe that this is a result of the engine shifting in its mounts, shoving the pulley over during hard cornering.
I've heard that you can prevent this problem by replacing the engine mounts with stiffer ones from a 5-series model. Has anyone tried this? How hard is it to replace motor mounts? Thanks for your help.
