camon, what did it say?
OK - this is what Roundel had to say in response to someone asking for recommendations to boost the performance for his 1985 325E with 127K miles.....
.........."smaller improvements can be had with a free-flow exhaust and a K & N filter, but we'd recommend using the K & N cone-type filter that replaces the entire air box assembly rather than the drop-in filter recommended by your shop. It's more than 75.00, but the restriction comes mainly from the air-box, not the filter. (Now, pay attention - my comment Steverino4) Something many K & N purchasers don't recognize is what exactly goes into the maintaining of a K & N filter. First, forget about the 50,000 mile interval. Once a year, you will have to remove the filter, clean it very carefully using ONLY water and the K & N citrus-based cleaner. Care must be taken not to damage the cotton gauze element. Then the filter has to dry thoroughly before re-oiling with K & N filter oil (not too much - not too little) Then it has to sit for 30 minutes or so while the oil sinks in. Failure to follow these exacting procedures will result in a damaged filter, and likely a damaged engine" Hope this helps! (Steverino4 1988 325is)
