I think the crank sensor is on the fron on those cars. I was wrong about the tach being in any way related to your problem. If there was something wrong with the sensor then your engine shouldn't start but I don't see how they could rule out any intermittent failure. The only other place I'd go back to is the fuel delivery system. Maybe something is failing in that.
