yes, the all caps is on purpose!

I've done way, way to many car projects to even mention (well, here's a few, painting cars, pulling engines and trans, converting from auto to 5 speed, etc.) for more than 20 years now.

In those years, the single worst experience I've had is trying to replace the rear bearing on my BMW. The problem is that you really need a press to do it. The thing in Bentley about using a piece of pipe and a hammer just doesn't work (maybe it might on some cars, but sure didn't on mine!).

It would not be a bad job, actually, if you had the RIGHT TOOLS, the right pullers, etc. It also might not be bad if you take off the whole control arm (kind of a pain, you have to disconnect the parking brake, etc.) and take the whole assembly to a shop.

As it turns out, this was the one time in 20 years that I had to give up and have the car towed to a shop. That after spending almost all day on it. And, to add insult to injury, I found out they only charged around $75 labor to replace the bearing!

The bearing itself is only $40, but you need a bearing press when you install the hub back into the bearing. If you don't have the press, the inner race of the bearing will separate & you are screwed (trying to reset it back together is also hard as hell & plus the bearing is junk by then because you will have nicked the bearings re-intalling it). I just did this last week & it SUCKS... Definitely pay to have it done. I think the dealer gets $200-$250/side. Worth it to me, as I spent 3 hours trying to re-install...

Just my thoughts-
