The "ix" requires a different oil pan because one of the front driveshafts goes through it. The M50 swap requires a E34 525i oil pan and it would be impossible to custom make one to accomidate the drive shaft. The exhaust is also a disaster on the ix because of clearance reasons on the transfer case.... to mate the ix exhaust to the M50 would also be really hard.
