I then replaced the timing belt and a few other parts and now it is hardly ever above half way. It usually sits between 1/4 and 1/2.

Evan,

im glad and relieved to read your comment.I had similiar overheating problems on my '83 E30 up until i fixed my cooling system and now the gauge sits between 1/4 and 1/2 too.Im alittle worried that it might be running cold, reason being that i hear that midway is EXACT operating temperature for BMWs so i hope we arnt going wrong anywhere both engine and performance wise.Is it normal for the temperature to rise whilst idling? How does yours react?
Also, does the timing belt influence temperature?

Anyone,feel free to comment.

Fransisco
