I may not have explained the problem well. I have the drive shaft out of the car. This part, so called vibration damper is metal on the outside and rubber on the inside, and covers the flexible disc completely when installed. Is this part really necessary, or can I throw it as far away as I can!!?Harry M

You have to remove the rubber before you can remove the flange. Remove the drive shaft support hidden above the aluminum heat shield. Remove the three nuts on the rubber (the guibe?). Loosen the nut on the drive ahft near the center support. With the drive shaft at an certain angle you can wiggle and remove the rubber from the tranny output flange.
