Make sure that when the little handle pops off when fueling you dont try to fit another half gallon in your car. There is a little vapor valve that closes holding in your gas and vapors from excaping but after doing the "overfill" for 15 yrs that valve could have gotten stuck open so there isnt anything holding the gas down in the tank.
