engine ticking/valve adjustment? (archive)

I have adjusted the valves on my 90' 325i about 5-6 times and it still sounds like it needs adjustment. I have followed the owners manual specs and also the ones given in the Haynes manual, but the noise will not stop (it's not that bad, I just wanted it nicer). Is there anything else that I should be looking for? TIA. Dave
