I have a 1988 325is with 171,700 miles on the clock. The car is in great shape in and out, but I was recently told by a BMW mechanic that my guibo seal is badly cracked. He told me is not dire, but I should replace it soon. Has anyone else dealt with this? He quoted about $450. Any help would be great!

This it a do-it-yoursefl job. As andyman said, the guilbo(flex disk) cost no more than $50. asumming that's a 2 hour job he'll bill you for $200/hour in labor. Whoa!!!! With all this money you can buy brake pad(front and rear), Clutch kit, and you still have money to see a movie.
For the Guilbo you just have to loose the driveshaft from the guilbo and the center bearing, change the guilbo and install the drive shaft back onto position. Piece of cake. About your robber(MECHANIC TECHNICIAN),ask him how much he quote for a resonator ball-bearing replacement. Don't let him steal your money. That's a $50 job.
