The fuel pump goes through a port inthe top of the tank (I think). If that seal is bad you will smell fuel only when it is full. It only takes a few drops of fuel to make that strong smell. Those same few drops can be explosive in the right environment too so be careful. Could also be a loose or rotted fuel hose. The one at the exit of the fuel pump has a really tight kink in it and it tends to leak right there too. Play it safe and have it checked out.

Last time I filled my car I noticed strong fuel smell from rear of car. Some gas actually puddled on the ground on the passenger side side near the door after driving 15 miles. Till I figure it out, I fill the car to 3/4 and have not had any smeel. The rubber boot between the frame and fill pipe is broken. Any Ideas would be appresiated!!!
