Help-coolant leak (archive)

I have found a coolant leak from a gasket within a housing, located just in front of the air intake, where it comes together under the throttle linkage. Does anyone know what this is called? I have never seen antifreeze this high over the engine. What does this part do, and what is it cooling? There looks like one hose coming in and two hoses leaving. Thanks in advance for helping me with this problem and letting me know if i'm in any trouble.
