Thanks to all who responded. To those who asked, the termperature goes up steadily from start-up. I have not driven on the highway for fear of serious damage since I added the "orange crap" appr. 2 wks ago. The temperature hovers around the red mark (all city driving) and there is no release of steam from the cap. This is during short trips avg. 20 -30 minutes. Here is what people suggested so far:

- Air-bleed the system,
- Flush the system thoroughly since the orange and the green stuff are not compatible,
- Check thermo switch(s) and aux fan (I have not heard any aux fan buzzing on this bimmer at all, I din't know there was one!)
- Check thermostat itself (I assume by removing it and plunging it in hot water). But the upper hose gets hot.

Can someone confirm the existance and location of an auxiliary fan thermo switch on the '87 325 (not i or e)? I have never heard a fan with the engine off.

How essential is the removal of the yellow/green mix? Is this of immediate concern before I drive again? Why didn't Havoline print a warning on the jug?????? This is frustrating.

Assuming that the mix will not destroy the cooling/heating system, should I proceed with the air-bleeding process in case air is the cause of the problem?

Thanks to all again for your posts!
P.S. Not driving it until I hear opinions....
