Brake Lining warning light (archive)

Hi,

What causes this light to appear? The reason I ask is that this is on quite regularly. Then it dissapears for a day or 2. Got the brakes by a car appraisal place and they couldn't see anything wrong with them. (my manual is on Japanese unfortunately)
