My mechanic has inspected the car and found no problems with the brakes.
Here is the brake maintanence record on the car:
rear disc brakes replaced 7/98 92k miles
front brakes replaced 2/99 99k miles
abs sensor 3/01 120k miles
He is not an expert on BMW's and sounds stumped. Owners manual says when the light is not on, ABS is not operational. Considering this light is almost always on I should assume it is not working. Any help would be appreciated.
