Engine probably needs to be replaced - 60-90#s compression in cylinders. I'm thinking more like $3000 - What do ya'll think. The seller has never seen it run, he bought it 3 years ago. Who knows what else is wrong although it does look fairly clean and cared for previously. No history. I did get Vin number for investigation if price warrants.
I think that's a whole ton of work and just because you didn't see any tell-tale signs of wear (the non-running engine didn't give it away?) doesn't mean there aren't any. WHY doesn't it run? If you put a totally new engine in it, that's big bucks and before you do that you're gonna have to rework the suspension just because it's been sitting so long! Who knows, maybe it's a steal and won't take much work. You can't tell from a "once over" look at it though. Get the VIN, run it, find out exactly why the engine does not run. Get a professional to look it over. And keep us posted on how the project goes. If you get your son involved in working on his car to be I'm sure he'll care alot more about it and be more hesitant to go hotrodding and wreck it.
