: OK then, what is the difference btwn. central and double locking?

Double-locking is when you turn the key clockwise in the driver's door lock and remove it while it is horizontal. What this does is central locks the entire car and then mechanically eliminates the possibility of unlocking the door because it locks the mechanism in place. In other words, a "Slim Jim" cannot do anything to get into the car. Period. Very handy little feature BMW has.
