: : : What are optimum shift points for a stock M3? Redline in each gear? Is it the same for all years?

: : : What about chipped - give specific examples if possible. Maybe in some gears all of the extra revs don't really help accel but allow you to hold a gear for a turn or to hit 60 mph without a shift to third. Has anyone done this scientifically using dyno and gear charts and/or actual measurements? Thanks!!

: : Well given the characteristics of the S14, I'd say the shift points would be between the 4500-6000 range because this engine likes to rev. I believe the engine reaches peak HP around 6K and drops from there.

: According to CarTest...peak HP is 6900-7200RPM so are the optimum shift points. Peak torque registers in at 5000-5300RPM. This sounds about right for a "peaky" high horsepower engine like the S14.

I would think the optimum shift points would be where max torque is achieved, which is 5-5300RPM.
