: Hi. The prices of used 1987 325is's have finally come down to around something I can afford to pay. I am therefore considering getting one, 1987 or 1988. I need some feedback. How is the ride/handling, build quality, reliability? Any trouble-prone areas I should examine? Is it complicated to work on? If I do get one, it's going to be a 5sp manual. How is the M20 engine, reliability and performance-wise? How many miles can that particular model expect to see if it is well-maintained. I would appreciate as much info as possible on this particular E30 model. Point me to a site if that helps any. Thanks in advance.

The 325is is generally a well made reliable car. Problem areas tend to be in the SI board and instrument panel. The AC system is a little weak - evaporators let go and it is a little pricey to fix due to labor. The ride and handling are both good- handling is easily made better w/ usual upgrades. Properly maintained, the M20 goes forever w/ timing belt changes at 60K. If interested, I have one FS - '88 325is, very reasonabble.
