: ...when do timing chains need changing - so much conflicting
: advice! Also are the chains single or double chains - I alsways thought they were single which is why people got so twitched if they weren't changed leading to a disasterous breakage - now I'm not sure anymore. Will someone please clarify. Thanks guys.
Hi there, If you want piece of mind change the timing chain at around 100K. The chain fitted to the s14 engine is a single chain that's why is important to have it changed when it's worn. It's a grey area timing chains on these engines, a lot of people say you must change them at 100K yet others say if the chain is ok under inspection then don't bother. It all depends on the car and how its been treated!.ME..I would change it at 100k or when ever it sounds worn, mine was changed at 60k!!. It'll be cheaper changing the chain than fixing the engine if the chain decides to go AWOL.
Hope this helps.
Stevie.
