: : I'm looking at getting either of these fine BMWs for a daily driver car and was wondering about the differences in feeling and performance. It seems that the M3 would be quicker and more nimble but how much more so than the 535is? Also how does the enjoyment of driving each car compare to the other? Other than that how they compare in their handling and other aspects? All opinions would be appreciated as I would like to make a decision quickly so I can get behind the wheel of one of the BMWs. Thanks,

: Hello Sallah, the two BMW's you mention are really two different cars one is a main stream BMW built for the masses the other is a race car modified for the road. The two cars have completely different road manners! I have driven a couple of e28 535i's and they are a fantastic amount of car for the money, they are quick reliable and built like a sherman tank! they handle ok but nothing like an M3. The e28 is at at it's best on the motorway traveling at good pace while keeping it occupants quietly cosseted. The M3 on the other hand is a hooligan who begs to be driven hard down a decent B road and who will only bite back if really provoked. My advice to you is if you want an every day car with excellent performance and you are'nt going to do much hard B road diving buy the 535i. If you want to have car that you piss yourself laughing in at every high speed bend and twist in the road then by an M3. Me, I know which one I would go for!
...are European M535i cars with 218 bhp on tap as compared to the American spec cars with 185 bhp. The difference between one ofthese and an M3 will be even greater!
Like everybody is saying they are two totally different things. My solution ? - get both! I would if I could!
