This same thing happened to me. I was driving home and lost brakes. I had to stomp on the pedal really hard to slow down. When this happens the car's idle makes it sound like its dying.
: : Today I was waiting for someone in my car(89 M3)...and it was just idling and I was listening to music. All the sudden the engine stopped but the tach was goin crazy...move all over the place. There was also alot of clicking and other electirical noises coming from the engine when I had the key in the on position. the noises stopped when I turned the key to the off position. I tried to start the car again but it would just turn over and almost sound like it was going to start but then would not. I also smelled gas. As I have never heard of this type of problem occuring in any car, does anyone have a clue as to what is wrong with the car?? Anyhelp would be graciously appriciated!!!!!!thanks

: : p.s. I do have a TMS chip if that makes any differnece...I;m gonna try it with the stock one in.
: This may or may not be your problem but is a potentially dangerous problem on ALL S14 engines... theres an elbow fitting that is press fitted into one of the throttle body horns (the one closest to the firewall) it likes to pop out causing a huge intake leak and since it's for the brake booster, causes you to lose your power brakes also. I suggest that everyone use RTV silicone or even JB weld the fitting to make sure it doesn't pop out when driving. The S14 vibrates alot so over the years these fittings like to work themselves loose, keep an eye on them if you haven't secured them yet.
