I changed it on 318is'91 and no special tools were needed.I would suggest you to do a little reserch before get to work. I read somewhere that the shaft it is balanced somehow, so when you put it back try to put it the same way(same spot). When i took mine off the car didn't pay attention to it.My car's ok.
