Blimmin gear knob came off in my hand (archive)

Anyone else experienced this? The gear knob and leather surround that clips in to the center console came off in my hand today. I had to use the metal bar to change gear until I found somewhere to park up. Its back on now but feels a bit dodgy - I have to make sure I press down every gear change.


What to do? It doesn`t look like its been glued on but there is no way its gonna stay on like it is now. How does it fit on? There is just a slot in the end of the metal bar that the gearknob pushs down on to.

Bit embarrassing - I was taking a work colleague on a trip to an off-site meeting. An afternoon off-road driving in little buggies!!!! Grreat fun
